Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 27 September 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Foreign Minister Abdulaziz Kamilov, held talks in Washington during a visit to the United States.

A brief meeting took place with the newly appointed deputy adviser to the President of the United States on national security, Matt Pottinger, who asked the Uzbek leadership to convey appreciation for the continued support of his country’s efforts to stabilize the situation in Afghanistan.

It was emphasized that Washington sees Uzbekistan as a reliable and key partner in implementing President Donald Trump’s strategy in South Asia, including the active involvement of Afghanistan in the regional trade, economic and infrastructure processes in Central Asia.

Negotiations were also held with Lisa Curtis, Senior Director for South and Central Asia, National Security Council.

The parties noted with satisfaction the productive results of the ministerial meeting “C5 + 1” held on 22 September in New York, which again confirmed the relevance of this interaction format.

Lisa Curtis separately noted the active position of Uzbekistan in developing regional cooperation and strengthening the atmosphere of trust in Central Asia. She welcomed the efforts of Uzbekistan to return women and children from zones of armed conflict in the Middle East and expressed its readiness to provide the necessary assistance on this issue.

During the meeting, other issues on the bilateral agenda were also discussed, including the further development of political dialogue, trade, economic, cultural and humanitarian ties.
