A Concert in Tashkent Marks the 140th Anniversary of Uzeyir Hajibeyli
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The Heydar Aliyev Azerbaijan Cultural Center at the Embassy of the Republic of Azerbaijan in Uzbekistan hosted a concert dedicated to the 140th anniversary of the birth of Uzeyir Hajibeyli, the founder of Azerbaijani national music and an outstanding composer.
The event was held as part of the 17th Uzeyir Hajibeyli International Music Festival, organized by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation and the Ministry of Culture of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Azerbaijan to Uzbekistan Huseyn Guliyev delivered a welcoming speech, highlighting Hajibeyli’s exceptional contribution to the development of Azerbaijani music and his role in shaping national identity. The diplomat emphasized that the decree of President Ilham Aliyev on celebrating the anniversary at the state level reflects the deep respect for Uzeyir Hajibeyli’s memory and legacy.
The artistic program featured performances by People’s Artist of Uzbekistan, Karakalpakstan, Bashkortostan, and Tatarstan Jenisbek Piyazov, soloist of the Uzbekistan Philharmonic Saiyoda Nartajiyeva, and Sarvinoz Kamilova, soloist of the “Uzbekim Yoshlar” ensemble. Their renditions of the composer’s works resonated deeply with the audience and were met with enthusiastic applause.
The “Azerbaijan” ensemble presented traditional dances, bringing vivid color to the concert and showcasing the richness of Azerbaijani cultural heritage. A theatrical production inspired by the operetta Arshin Mal Alan, staged by the Center’s youth troupe, also attracted special attention from the audience.
The concert was widely praised as a significant cultural event that strengthens friendship and cultural cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan.
