9th India–Uzbekistan Joint Working Group Meeting on Counterterrorism Held in Tashkent
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) — The 9th meeting of the India–Uzbekistan Joint Working Group on Counterterrorism was held in Tashkent, co-chaired by Dr. Vinod D. Bahade, Joint Secretary for Counterterrorism at the Ministry of External Affairs of India, and Gulomzhon Pirimkulov, Head of the Department for Cooperation with South Asia, the Middle East, and Africa at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan.
During the meeting, both sides discussed global and regional threats posed by terrorist organizations.
The exchange of views covered current and emerging challenges in counterterrorism, including combating extremism and radicalization, preventing the financing of terrorist acts, addressing the use of technology for terrorist purposes, links between transnational organized crime and terrorism, and issues related to the movement of terrorists.
Both parties condemned the terrorist attack that occurred on 22 April 2025 in Pahalgam, Jammu and Kashmir, India, which affected civilians.
The meeting also addressed measures to strengthen bilateral cooperation through information exchange, capacity building, and the adoption of best practices.
Participants reaffirmed their commitment to active engagement in multilateral formats, including the United Nations, the SCO Regional Anti-Terrorist Structure Executive Committee (SCO-RATS), and the Eurasian Group on Combating Money Laundering and Financing of Terrorism (EAG).
The next meeting of the Joint Working Group is planned to take place in India at a mutually agreed time.
