Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Over 185.4 million euros will be directed for the implementation of the Tashkent Water Supply Transformation Plan.
A corresponding contract was signed on 7 March r between the khokim of Tashkent city D. Artikkhodzhaev and SUEZ general director for the Middle East, Central Asia and the Caucasus, Mr. Cyril Courjaret, together with the Minister of Housing and Public Utilities Muzaffar Saliev. According to the contract, a promising innovative seven-year project will be implemented: “Tashkent Water Supply Transformation Plan”.
As the deputy governor of the city of Tashkent Bakhtiyor Rakhmankulov noted, the total budget of this project is 185.4 million euros, of which 142 million euros will be spent on loans from leading European banks - the funds will be used to modernize urban water supply and sanitation networks and improve their management in accordance with the highest international standards.
The project also includes the introduction of the latest intelligent management technologies and the transfer of SUEZ’s comprehensive know-how, based on SUEZ’s 150 years of experience in this field in more than 80 countries.
This social project is fully consistent with the approach of our state to updating and expanding utilities for all citizens with the support of international best practices. It will be a pilot project to modernize the water supply sector in Uzbekistan and a model for the entire Central Asian region.
The Tashkent water supply transformation project will also make a significant contribution to the local economy: part of the equipment production will be localized in Tashkent, additional jobs will be created, hundreds of local water supply specialists will be trained at the local and foreign levels, Bakhtiyor Rakhmankulov emphasized.
To date, the agreed draft Terms of Reference, for the subsequent preparation of the feasibility study of the project, is considered by the Sectoral Scientific and Technical Council (ONTS) of the Ministry of Housing and Public Utilities.
In the future, the approved feasibility study will serve as the beginning of a fruitful project.
