10th session of EU-Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee held in Tashkent

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Members of the European Parliament Delegation to the EU – Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee visited Uzbekistan on 28 – 30 October.

The Delegation headed by Member of the European Parliament (MEP) Mr. Paolo Bartolozzi and including MEP Ms. Elisabeth Jeggle and MEP Ms. Katarina Nevedalova, took part in the 10th annual European Union – Republic of Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.

The group of three MEPs discussed with their counterparts from both house of the Uzbek Parliament the implementation of EU-Uzbekistan Partnership and Cooperation Agreement and potential areas for further development of bilateral ties.

As part of the visit, the Delegation also met with representatives of EU business interests in the country, civil society representatives and students of the University of World Economy and Diplomacy. They also visited the EU funded project for support of judicial reform in Uzbekistan.

The MEPs stressed during their visit the continued interest of the EU to further develop relations with Uzbekistan and underlined the existing opportunities for further advancement of bilateral political, economic and social ties as well as regional cooperation around issues faced by all countries in Central Asia. The MEPs underlined the important role that the cooperation between the European and Uzbek parliaments plays in this respect.

The EU – Uzbekistan Parliamentary Cooperation Committee takes place on an annual basis and alternates between Tashkent and Brussels.
