Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - On 26 February 2021, the signing ceremony of the Agreement on the establishment of the Uzbek-Ukrainian Business Council was held at the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan in the format of video conferencing.
The event was attended by Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan A. Ikramov, President of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Ukraine G. Chizhikov, as well as Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Uzbekistan to Ukraine A. Kurmanov and Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Ukraine to Uzbekistan N. Doroshenko.
During the event, the President of the Ukrainian Chamber of Commerce and Industry made a welcoming speech, where he noted that Uzbekistan and Ukraine interact perfectly with each other. The parties discussed the issue of attracting attention and reviving new interest in interaction between the countries.
It should be noted that held in January 2021, events dedicated to the agricultural and textile industry with the participation of business representatives of Uzbekistan and Ukraine contributed to the intensification of interaction between the business communities of the two countries. This, in turn, played an important role in the creation of the Uzbek-Ukrainian Business Council.
During the negotiations, the CCIs of the two countries agreed to take an active part in the work of the Business Council, as well as provide assistance to the business community of Uzbekistan and Ukraine in establishing multilateral cooperation.
During the online meeting, the Uzbek side put forward proposals for organizing online events with the wide involvement of interested representatives of the business circles of the two countries, as well as attracting Ukrainian companies to Uzbekistan for the implementation of joint projects in Uzbekistan. Also, the Ukrainian side supported the proposal of Uzbekistan to intensify interaction in the field of information technologies, the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing e-commerce and "online platforms" to increase trade between Uzbekistan and Ukraine.
As a result of the event, the parties signed a Memorandum on the establishment of the Uzbek-Ukrainian Business Council, the purpose of which is to strengthen mutual understanding and develop mutually beneficial cooperation between the business communities of Ukraine and the Republic of Uzbekistan in various fields of mutual interest, including agriculture, industry and trade. ...
Bilateral relations between Uzbekistan and Ukraine are based on a solid legal framework, consisting of 149 bilateral documents, 40 of which are of an economic nature. Ukraine is one of the largest foreign trade partners of Uzbekistan.
In January-September 2020, bilateral trade made up US$307.4 million, including exports - US$83.5 million and imports - US$223.9 million.
As of 1 October 2020, 135 enterprises with the participation of Ukrainian capital operate on the territory of the Republic of Uzbekistan, of which 73 are joint ventures and 62 individual entrepreneurs. For 9 months of last year, 17 enterprises were newly created in the republic.
In turn, 35 joint ventures with Uzbek capital operate in Ukraine.
