Prospects for enhancing trade and economic cooperation discussed

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On January 20, 2020, the Ambassador of Uzbekistan Kadambay Sultanov in Riga met with the Deputy State Secretary of the Ministry of Economy of Latvia Zaiga Liepina.
The organizational and substantive issues of the upcoming joint events between the relevant economic departments of the two countries were discussed, including the dates for the 8th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Industrial, Scientific and Technical Cooperation and the Uzbek-Latvian business forum in Tashkent.
Zaiga Liepina said that in Latvia they attach great importance to the further development of trade and economic cooperation with Uzbekistan. The priority areas of cooperation are the spheres of transport and logistics, agriculture, pharmaceuticals, and education. The importance of the speedy launch of the Uzbek-Latvian Business Cooperation Council, the creation of which is provided for by the Agreement between the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and the Confederation of Employers of Latvia, was emphasized.
In turn, the Latvian side was informed in detail about the results of foreign trade activity of Uzbekistan in 2019. Among the areas of interest to the Uzbek side, the exchange of experience and information in the field of forestry development, education, including the training of agricultural specialists and veterinarians, IT, green technologies, standardization, tourism, etc., was announced.
During the meeting, an agreement was reached on intensifying joint efforts to set deadlines and develop a meaningful agenda for the Tashkent-based IPC meeting and business forum.
