Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 1 October, at the headquarters of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in Brussels, a meeting was held between the Permanent Representative of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the Alliance, Dilyor Hakimov, and the Secretary General of the organization, David Hobbs.
During the conversation, the parties discussed issues of strengthening and expanding relations, in particular, further development of cooperation between the Parliamentary Assembly of the Alliance and the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the republic reports.
David Hobbs was informed about the reforms aimed at strengthening the role of parliament in promoting democratic reforms, ensuring the rule of law and further modernizing the judicial system, strengthening freedom of speech and protecting human rights.
The NATO PA official praised the start of the election campaign for the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and local Kengashes. The progress achieved recently in the republic on the implementation of important political, legal, social and economic reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev is especially noted.
Touching upon the prospects of cooperation with Uzbekistan, David Hobbs announced the Assembly’s readiness to expand cooperation with Uzbek parliamentarians through the organization of mutual visits, during which it is proposed to exchange views on the most pressing problems of regional and global politics.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to organize mutual visits of representatives of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly in 2020 to discuss promising issues of interaction.
