Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Uzbekistan in anticipation of a major political process - the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis and deputies to local kengashes. Elections play an important role in implementing democratic reforms in the country, as well as achieving strategic development goals both for the near future and for a long period.
The next meeting of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan, which took place on 20 September 2019, was dedicated to this significant event.
At the meeting, the Central Election Commission appointed election day for deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and deputies to local kengashes for 22 December 2019. It was announced that the campaign will start on 20 September 2019.
The meeting also approved a program of key events for the election of deputies to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and deputies to local kengashes.
It was especially noted that in Uzbekistan, which has entered a new, democratic stage of development, the upcoming election campaign in parliament and local kengashs will start in a completely new spirit.
First of all, parliamentary elections and local councils of people's deputies will be held for the first time this year in accordance with the new Electoral Code of the Republic of Uzbekistan. For the first time in an election, five political parties have the right to nominate candidates. These are the Milliy Tiklanish Democratic Party, the People’s Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Movement of Entrepreneurs and Business People - the Liberal Democratic Party of Uzbekistan, the Social Democratic Party Adolat and the Ecological Party of Uzbekistan.
More than 20 million voters, including for the first time more than 2 million youth representatives will vote in elections.
At the end of the meeting, the chairman of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the leaders of political parties were invited to a specially decorated hall of the International Press Center. They pressed the transparent buttons and solemnly launched the campaign.
According to the Electoral Code, political parties now have the right to nominate candidates not only in 135, but in all 150 constituencies. The abolition of quotas by the Ecological Movement of Uzbekistan will intensify inter-party competition.
