The priorities of the National Commission on combating human trafficking and forced labor defined

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – On 3 August 2019, the Senate of the Oliy Majlis hosted an organizational meeting of the National Commission on combating trafficking in human beings and forced labor. The meeting was chaired by Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairman of the National Commission Tanzila Narbayeva.
The meeting was attended by members of the National Commission, heads of ministries and departments, non-governmental non-profit organizations, as well as media workers.
The participants discussed the effective implementation of tasks to combat trafficking in persons and forced labor, as well as some organizational issues related to the activities of the National Commission.
The composition of the subcommissions of the National Commission on combating trafficking in human beings and forced labor was also considered. The attention was focused on the issues related to the development and introduction of the relevant provisions regulating the activities of sub-committees, work plans and road maps to improve the efficiency of state bodies in the field of combating trafficking in human beings and forced labor in 2019-2020.
It was noted that it is advisable to carry out propaganda work aimed at combating trafficking in human beings and forced labour, to prevent such negative phenomena, to prepare thematic videos, reviews, brochures, posters, booklets, flyers and other materials, as well as to disseminate the necessary information on the world wide web. In addition, there is a need to make greater use of the media and social networks to raise citizens‘ awareness of the means and methods used in trafficking.
The need to study and put into practice the best practices of developed foreign countries in the field of combating human trafficking and forced labor was also noted.
The speakers emphasized the further improvement of the existing legislation in the field of combating trafficking in human beings and forced labor, the implementation of a number of conventions of the International labour organization in the field of combating forced labor into national legislation, the adoption of effective measures aimed at combating forced labor using international methodologies and tools to comply with the fundamental principles and rights at work.
Jokargy Kenes of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, khokimiyats of regions and the city of Tashkent were instructed to create and approve the composition of territorial commissions on combating human trafficking and forced labor, to approve the plan of territorial activities for 2019-2020, as well as to submit quarterly information to the National Commission on the work carried out by the territorial commissions.
The participants discussed the issues of compliance with the principles of openness and transparency in the activities of the National Commission, as well as launch of the official website of the National Commission.
It was also mentioned about the need to inform the missions of the Republic of Uzbekistan abroad of the international community about the work carried out in this direction.
Taking into account the views and proposals expressed during the meeting, the relevant decision of the National Commission was adopted.
