Legal Clinic for journalists and media opens in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 24 July, a briefing was held on the opening of the Legal Clinic for journalists and media in the framework of the project “Improving legal literacy of journalists to support media freedom in Uzbekistan”.
“The legal clinic for journalists should solve the problem of lack of legal support, promoting the protection of media workers, increasing their legal literacy and providing the necessary competencies for self-defense of the legitimate rights and interests of journalists, media workers and bloggers,” said Saida Sulaimanov.
The legal clinic will provide oral advice in the following areas:
- legislation on the media, including issues of registration, suspension and cancellation of media activities, accreditation, etc .;
- Legislation on the protection of the professional activities of journalists, including issues of professional ethics of journalists;
- Intellectual property law;
- legislation on freedom of access to information (publicly available information and information of limited access);
-law related to defamation issues.
The legal clinic does not represent the interests of journalists and the media in the courts; does not prepare documents of any nature (letters, contracts, claims, claims and other types of statements, etc.); does not provide legal advice by phone.
Provision of legal advice is carried out only when you personally visit the legal clinic by appointment, as well as through online applications on the clinic website.
The legal clinic is organized by the Non-state non-profit organization “Center for the Development of Modern Journalism” with the support of the British Embassy in the Republic of Uzbekistan. Journalists, media workers, and bloggers can apply to the legal clinic.
