Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 9 January 2019, the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Netherlands held talks with the leadership of one of the world’s leading companies supplying seed potatoes Meijer, headed by CEO Erika den Daas.
During the conversation, the sides exchanged views on the prospects for establishing cooperation between Uzbekistan and Meijer, founded in 1920, the press service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan said.
The parties highly appreciated the membership of Uzbekistan in the International Union for the Protection of New Varieties of Plants (UPOV), an international intergovernmental organization whose goal is to ensure that members of UPOV recognize the achievements of breeders involved in breeding new plant varieties by giving them intellectual property rights based on a number of clearly defined principles.
Of particular interest to foreign partners was the course of reforms initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev in the field of agriculture and the attraction of foreign investors to this area.
At the meeting, the parties noted that commissioning in the near future of the first in Central Asia plant for production of potato chips based on Dutch technology opens up new opportunities for further expansion of production and export of value-added products.
Following the meeting, the parties reached agreement on organizing visits by a number of Uzbek delegations to the Netherlands in late January-February 2019 to discuss specific projects.
In particular, visits of members of the Association of Potato Producers of Uzbekistan are planned, which will hold talks on setting up a joint venture for growing seed potatoes, as well as a potato cluster in the Bakhmal district of Jizzakh region.
