Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Ambassador of Uzbekistan to the European Union Dilyor Khakimov in Brussels met with Vice President of the European Parliament, German deputy Reiner Wieland.
The deputies Michael Gahler and Elizabeth Yegle, who were in the delegation of the European People’s Party faction in the European Parliament from Germany in August 2018, which visited Uzbekistan, also attended the meeting.
Vice-President of the Parliament Rainer Wieland highly appreciated the deep socio-economic reforms carried out in Uzbekistan at the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, as well as the new regional policy associated with his name, which allowed in a short time to solve the most difficult tasks of water resources , delimitation and demarcation of state borders, in general, change the very political atmosphere in the direction of strengthening trust and cooperation in Central Asia.
As it was emphasized, it already gives direct results. In particular, cooperation in addressing environmental issues has intensified, including in strengthening cooperation with the European Union in minimizing the negative effects of the drying up of the Aral Sea.
During the meeting, held in a constructive spirit, issues of the current state of Uzbek-European relations, attraction of experience and financial and technical assistance of the EU in the implementation of reforms in Uzbekistan were also discussed.
