Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 19 November 2018, the Senate hosted a meeting of the Chairman of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Nigmatulla Yuldoshev with a delegation of the United States Congress led by a member of the House of Representatives, the chairman of the Congress Caucus (Friendship Group) USA by Trent Kelly.
During the meeting, issues of further strengthening inter-parliamentary cooperation were discussed, the Senate press service reports.
It was noted that due to the historical visit of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to the USA in May 2018, the bilateral dialogue of parliamentarians of Uzbekistan and the USA will be activated.
The trips of delegations of the Oliy Majlis to the USA within the framework of the Open World program of the Library of Congress have increased. Representatives of the Congress are visiting our country, the last of which was held on the Helsinki Commission recently.
A visit to Uzbekistan by a representative delegation of US congressmen indicates a growing interest in establishing cooperation with Uzbekistan. The formation of the “Caucus on Uzbekistan” in the US Congress was a huge step in this direction. This informal club of congressmen will significantly expand and deepen inter-parliamentary ties and better understand the essence of social and political processes in Uzbekistan and the United States.
It was noted that the large-scale reforms carried out in Uzbekistan are aimed at shaping a new, modern image of the country and building a truly democratic state of law and developing a strong civil society.
The parties stressed the importance of developing trade, economic, financial, investment and technological cooperation between Uzbekistan and the United States. Reforms are being carried out in Uzbekistan to accelerate the innovative development of priority sectors of the economy and the social sphere on the basis of advanced foreign experience, modern achievements of world science, innovative ideas, developments and technologies.
All of this envisages liberalization of the economy, the provision of conditions for free business activity and the improvement of the investment climate. Currently, large American companies are actively working in our country: General Electric, General Motors, John Deere, Boeing, Honeywell, Coca Cola and many others.
During the meeting, issues of cooperation between the two countries on issues of ensuring regional security, primarily in the stabilization and rehabilitation of Afghanistan, were also discussed.
The parties discussed other issues of mutual interest.
