Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 May 2018, the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of the Republic of Uzbekistan hosted a round table on "Prospects for development of trade, economic and investment cooperation between Uzbekistan and Lithuania" with the participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Lithuania L. Linkevičius and business circles of the two countries.
The business circles of Lithuania included companies engaged in forwarding and logistics, crop production, training of specialists in the field of medicine, processing of electronic waste and production of metal products, as well as business consulting.
The purpose of the event is to promote establishment of trade relations between companies of Uzbekistan and Lithuania, to work out the issues of creating new joint ventures and implementing new investment projects.
During the business meeting, issues of mutual cooperation on strengthening cooperation between entrepreneurs of the two countries were discussed.
Representatives of business circles of the Republic of Lithuania stressed the positive dynamics of Uzbekistan’s economic growth, welcomed the efforts of the government of Uzbekistan to liberalize various sectors of the economy, create the necessary conditions for foreign investors. It was also said that this round table will create an opportunity for exchange of experience and opinions between business circles of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Republic of Lithuania.
During the event, participants received information on large-scale economic reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, measures taken to liberalize the economy and the foreign exchange market, improve the business environment, support business, protect the rights and legitimate interests of small businesses and private entrepreneurship, increase the investment attractiveness of the country’s economy, foreign investors in existing and newly created SEZs.
It should be noted that in 2017 the trade between the countries amounted to US$259.0 million.
Currently, 14 enterprises operate in Uzbekistan with the participation of investors from Lithuania, of which 3 - with 100% Lithuanian capital. Representative offices of 2 companies from Lithuania accredited in Uzbekistan.
These enterprises work in such areas as the chemical, food, construction, pharmaceutical industries, as well as tourism services.
