Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of Uzbekistan and National Governor from Uzbekistan Sadyk Safoyev received a delegation of the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) led by its First Vice President Philip Bennett.
The parties underlined active cooperation with EBRD experts in issues of entrepreneurship support, consultations on improving the investment climate, development of various sectors of the economy, increasing the country’s export potential, etc.
Sadyk Safoev expressed his gratitude to the EBRD for the decision, taken by the Board of Directors of the Bank on approval of allocation of credit funds to the small and medium-sized businesses of the country.
It should be noted that on 18 October and 1 November, the Board of Directors unanimously approved decisions on allocation of credits for US$120 million to Uzbekistan before the adoption of the Country Strategy, which is an unprecedented case.
Philip Bennett praised the course of reforms under the leadership of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev and thanked the Uzbek side for all-round support in promoting cooperation with the EBRD.
The sides exchanged views on the priority areas of cooperation between Uzbekistan and the EBRD and on the progress of work on the medium term EBRD Country Strategy for Uzbekistan.
Issues of expanding cooperation with the Bank in the development of the capital market in Uzbekistan, including modernization of the stock exchange, improvement of the securities market and access of Uzbekistan to international capital markets were also discussed.
