Knauf plans to implement two projects in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Germany’s Knauf plans to invest US$52.5 million to expansion of production of gypsum-based mortars and Knauf- plasterboards in Uzbekistan.
Within the first project, the company will build a new plant on production of gypsum-based mortars with the capacity of 120,000 tonnes a year. The plant will be located in Bukhara region.
Knauf is planning to modernize capacities of the plant on production of Knauf- plasterboards within the second plant. In the result, the capacity of the plant to increase by 8 million square meters a year – to 28 million square meters a year.
Uzstroymateriali and Knauf are planning to sign an investment agreement on implementation of these projects this year. The document is under development now.
Knauf invested over US$60 million to creation of modern production facilities in Bukhara region. Knauf has got two enterprises in Bukhara region, Uzbekistan, one of them is Bukharagips which produces high-quality dry gypsum-based mortars, and FE Knauf Gips Bukhara, which produces Knauf- plasterboards in line with the European standards.
The first enterprise started to produce gypsum-based mortars in August 2009. The capacity of the plant is 50,000 tonnes of products a year.
In 2011, Knauf constructed a plant on production for Knauf-boards at KNAUF GIPS Bukhara. The design production capacity of the enterprise amounted to 20 million square meters of high-quality gypsum plasterboards a year.
