Tashkent hosts annual meeting of CA project on management of land resources

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Tashkent hosted an annual meeting of the participants of the regional project “Improving use and formation of knowledge on sustainable management of land resources in Central Asia”.
Five states of the Central Asia are participating in the project. It was launched in 2013 and is part of international programme “Central Asian Countries Initiative for Land Management” (CACILM).
The CACILM support Central Asian states in implementation of the UN Convention on combating desertification. Implementation of the projects of the programme started in 2006. It is supported by international donors. The regional and national projects on management of land resources for US$155 million were implemented.
During the implementation of the projects of the first phase of CACILM, the countries accrued positive experience in sustainable land management and tested the best methods. In the result, international donors supported the second phase of the programme. One of the first projects within the second phase is the project “Improving use and formation of knowledge on sustainable management of land resources in Central Asia”.
Three-year project is financed by International Fund for Agriculture Development (IFAD) and coordinated by International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
The project is aimed at creating platform for uniting knowledge, received in the first phase of the programme and other best practices in the Central Asian states. The database will be created, which will include approaches and technologies, developed by scientists and farmers, for sustainable management of water, lands and forest resources, breeding cattle, etc.
The project will also develop recommendations on efficient use and dissemination of measures on sustainable development of land resources.
During the meeting in Tashkent, the interested organizations considered planned works and their implementation.
