CNTIC and Belam Riga win tender for electrification railroad in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- China National Technical Import and Export Corporation (CNTIC) and Latvia’s Belam Riga won a tender on supply of equipment for electrification of railroad “Maroqand-Qarshi” in south of Uzbekistan, RIA Novosti reported quoting the source in the company.
Within the tender, the CNTIC won a lot on supply of transformer sub-stations and contact system, while Belam Riga will deliver systems of signalization, centralization and blocking, telecommunication and SCADA.
State joint stock railway company Uzbekistan Temir Yollari announced a tender with the starting price of US$51 million in May 2013. The contracts will be signed within a month.
Uzbekistan Temir Yollari started a project on electrification of railroad Maroqand-Qarshi with the length of 140.8 km in January 2012. The project envisages reconstruction of locomotive depot in Karshi to use Tashguzar-Baisun-Kumkurgan railroad. The project will be implemented within four years.
The project cost is US$234.7 million, which is financed due to own resources of Uzbekistan Temir Yollari for US$110.9 million, loan of the Asian Development Bank for US$100 million and the Government of Uzbekistan as customs and tax preferences for US$23.8 million.
Uzbekistan has 4,200 km of railways, of which 1,000 km were electrified. Uzbekistan electrified over 700 km of railways in last seven years. Uzbekistan plans to electrify about 2,000 km of railroads.
