Envoy: Uzbekistan offers to export electricity to Pakistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Geographic closeness of Uzbekistan and Pakistan is a good precondition for development of trade-economic cooperation, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Pakistan to Uzbekistan Riaz Hussain Bukhari said in interview to Uzbekistan Today.
“Taking into account that Uzbekistan and Pakistan are geographically close and I believe that this is a good precondition for development of trade-economic cooperation. Therefore, my priority is to expand trade relations,” he said.
He said that the countries are boosting business cooperation and two states have much to offer each other, especially in such promising areas like food processing, transportation, pharmaceuticals, IT-technology and small-scale production,” the diplomat said.
Riaz Hussain Bukhari said that currently the sides are considering several documents. The Uzbek side offered to use Pakistan ports, including Gwadar Sea Port, to reach global markets. Islamabad supports this initiative of Tashkent, which is the shortest way to the Sea.
He said that Uzbekistan also offered to export electricity to Pakistan, constructing high voltage line via Afghanistan. The part of the line till Kabul is operating and it provides electricity to the Afghan capital, the envoy said.
Ambassador said that the parliamentary cooperation is another direction for cooperation. The parliaments of two states have good experience and they can share it with each other, he noted.
Riaz Hussain Bukhari underlined that it is necessary to develop relations in education, especially cooperation among the Pakistan and Uzbekistani universities. Uzbekistan has great potential in this areas, he said. Envoy stated that two states are completing work on programme of student exchange among universities.
Ambassador said that Uzbekistan and Pakistan are planning to boost cooperation in culture, tourism and sports. He said that Uzbekistan has great tourism potential and Samarkan, Bukhara and Khiva are beloved tourism sights of Pakistan citizens. He expressed hoped that there are a lot interesting places in Pakistan for Uzbek tourists.
