Uzbek President receives credentials from EU, Japanese envoys

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Islam Karimov received credentials from the head of the delegation of the European Union Ambassador Yuri Sterk and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Fumihiko Kato at the presidential residence Oqsaroy on 23 May 2013.
Congratulating diplomats with start of their responsible and honourable mission, Islam Karimov expressed warm wishes and hope for further development of relations.
At the meeting with the EU envoy, it was noted that Uzbekistan pays special attention to expansion of fruitful cooperation with the European Union and the EU countries as a whole.
It was noted that it is necessary to preserve and develop positive trends in relations both in the EU-Uzbekistan format and within the implementation of programme “Strategy for new partnership of EU for Central Asia”, which Uzbekistan has been supporting since its approval in 2007.
During meeting, the sides exchanged opinion on regional and international issues of mutual interest, including situation in Afghanistan, UzA reported.
Yuri Sterk, in his turn, confirmed that he will do his best to support positive trends in the relations between Uzbekistan and European Union, as well as development of mutual beneficial and constructive cooperation.
At the meeting with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan Fumihiko Kato, it was said that Uzbekistan considers Japan as a key and long-term partner and the relations, which are based on joint statement on friendship, strategic partnership and cooperation, signed in 2002.
Owing to the jointly accumulated experience of effective interaction, our two countries have been consistently buttressing the bilateral political dialogue, the trade and economic, cultural and humanitarian relations.
The 11th joint session of the Uzbek-Japanese and Japanese-Uzbek committees for economic cooperation that took place last March in Tashkent revealed a remarkable potential in mutually advantageous investment cooperation between the business circles of our two countries, including that by establishing modern production capacities in hi-tech sectors of manufacturing and services industries.
Ambassador Kato pointed out that he considers his mission primarily in the assistance to the consolidation of longer-term bonds between Japan and Uzbekistan, in the practical implementation of interstate agreements, and that he will make use of his foremost abilities and experience for these goals to be furthered to the best.
