International conference: mutually beneficial relationships at all levels are important in addressing the problem of gender-based violence

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Today, on 6 December, the Public Foundation for the Support and Development of National Mass Media, with the support of the United Nations Population Fund in Uzbekistan (UNFPA), held an international conference dedicated to the exchange of experience and knowledge on the topic "Institutionalization combat violence. Creation of gender-sensitive images in the media”.
The event was attended by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbayeva, Deputy Secretary-General of the UN, Director General of the UN Office in Geneva Tatyana Valovaya, Head of the Sector for Communications and Information Policy of the Executive Office of the Administration of the President of Uzbekistan Saida Mirziyoyeva, Acting UN Resident Coordinator and Head of Mission UNICEF in Uzbekistan Munir Mammadzade, Head of the European Union Mission in Uzbekistan Charlotte Adrian, representatives of relevant government agencies and the non-governmental sector, experts from international organizations, as well as media representatives and bloggers.
The conference discussed such topical issues as the need for effective coordination of departments in combating gender-based violence, the role of the relevant committee on women’s affairs in the institutional protection of women’s rights, mechanisms for protecting women by law enforcement agencies.
In her speech, T. Narbaeva focused the attention of the ministers in the field of education, first of all, on the issue of “ensuring continuity at all stages of the education system – from kindergarten to the higher education system. We must work closely with each other to educate our children on gender equality, zero tolerance for violence, and sensitize them to other areas of the sustainable development goals through interesting programs. Thus, we will achieve the education of a comprehensively developed harmonious personality. Then we will not need rehabilitation centers, helplines,” she stressed.
The participants of the event considered ensuring guarantees of equal rights for women and men in the activities of the media, in particular, from all angles, from gender personnel parity to the provision of information. As a result of the conference, a roadmap was developed to combat violence in Uzbekistan.
