Round table on Uzbek textiles takes place in Great Britain
Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A round table on the topic “Uzbek textiles: new opportunities for the British market” was held at the Embassy of Uzbekistan in the UK, Dunyo news agency reported.
According to the diplomatic mission of our country in London, the event was attended by representatives of the official and business circles of Great Britain, including companies specializing in the fashion industry, owners of designer brands and the media. Jonas Astrup, head of the International Labor Organization (ILO) office in Uzbekistan, also spoke as one of the speakers addressing the round table participants.
For the British side, the diplomatic mission organized an extended presentation on economic reforms and transformations in Uzbekistan, support for domestic producers and exporters of textile products, investment and trade potential.
Almost all speakers welcomed the large-scale transformations in Uzbekistan, especially economic liberalization, praised the country’s efforts and achievements in eradicating forced labor, modernizing economic sectors and promoting exports.
As it was emphasized, along with the mentioned progress, the recent receipt by Uzbekistan of the status of a beneficiary in trade with Great Britain within the framework of the Enhanced General Scheme of Preferences of Great Britain (GSP, Enhanced Framework) opens up new opportunities for increasing the supply of Uzbek products to the British market.
Special attention was paid to Uzbek textiles, in particular, ikat and suzane, which have gained special attention in the Western fashion and design industry in recent years.
British specialized companies Fashion Tours London and Co Pear Ltd have announced a joint initiative to launch an information campaign "New Vision for Uzbek Textile" in the UK, which will include holding presentations, promoting the establishment of cooperation ties between the business communities of the two countries, preparation of visual materials and so on.
