Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 November 2021, an event was held to mark the start of the joint campaign "16 days of active action against gender-based violence."
The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Chairperson of the Commission on Ensuring Gender Equality Tanzila Narbaeva.
The event was attended by senators, Acting UN Resident Representative in Uzbekistan and Head of the UN Population Fund Office in Uzbekistan Yu Yu, heads of non-governmental non-profit organizations, members of the Youth Parliament and others.
This global campaign against violence against women, which celebrates its thirtieth anniversary this year, is being implemented in 187 countries around the world, reaching over 6,000 organizations and 300 million people.
The reason is that gender-based violence knows no geographic, social or economic boundaries. It requires serious measures to curb it in both developing and developed countries.
The event spoke about cases of violence against women, measures that are being taken to mitigate their consequences, in particular, about practices, problems and future plans.
It was noted that in recent years, under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, certain work has been carried out in our country to ensure the rights and interests of women, gender equality, protection of families, motherhood and childhood, development of women’s entrepreneurship, creation of new jobs, improvement of working and living conditions, prevention harassment and violence against women. This issue has become a priority area of government policy.
At the same time, a fundamentally new system - "Women’s Notebook" was introduced to provide targeted assistance by the state to women with difficult living conditions, unemployed and non-professional, in need of social protection, legal and spiritual and psychological support.
Women’s dignity - maternal dignity occupies a special place in the new Uzbekistan, where human dignity is a priority, which was put forward by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
This year alone, our country has adopted 8 normative legal acts to improve the system for the prevention of domestic violence.
Resolution of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 19 May 2021 No. PP-5116 "On additional measures for the rehabilitation of women victims of violence" was adopted in a timely manner and is aimed at creating a system of assistance to women who have been subjected to violence, preventing and eliminating the negative consequences of family and domestic violence.
On the basis of this resolution, 29 centers for the rehabilitation and adaptation of women were created under the Ministry for Support of Mahalla and Family. If before that the rehabilitation centers functioned as non-governmental non-profit organizations, now their activities are fully funded from the state budget.
The government is implementing a program of measures for 2021-2022 to prevent, detect and suppress family and domestic violence.
The Republican Public Council of Women in April of this year approved the "Roadmap" for the prevention of domestic violence and assistance to victims of gender-based violence.
In order to ensure the implementation of the "Road Map", the activities of the working group have been established at the level of the heads of the authorized state bodies.
The Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Higher and Secondary Special Education has created a textbook on the provision of medical psychiatric assistance to victims of harassment and violence.
In order to establish communication and provide prompt psychological, psychotherapeutic, legal assistance, counseling and provision of information to women who have suffered from harassment and violence, who have committed suicide or who have suicidal tendencies, the 1146 hotlines have been brought in line with the national interactive platform AZIZ- AYOL.UZ ".
The Ministry of Justice has developed special online courses to improve the legal awareness and legal literacy of women, available to all, and are posted on the “kurslar.huquqiyportal.uz” platform.
More than 74 thousand women included in the “women’s notebook”, who applied for violation of their rights and legitimate interests, received legal assistance from leading specialists.
Over 71 thousand women included in the "women’s notebook" who have suffered from oppression and violence, have social problems, received psychological assistance from qualified psychologists.
At the event, it was said that efforts aimed at preventing violence should be systematic, targeted and become a task implemented in every makhalla, enterprise, collective and family, from leaders of all levels to makhalla activists should constantly be engaged in the implementation of these works, it is necessary establish effective cooperation.
At the same time, the participants of the event noted the need to strengthen multifaceted measures to counter gender-based violence in Uzbekistan, and also discussed efforts aimed at providing services to victims of violence and women survivors through rehabilitation and adaptation centers and shelters, as well as best practices in this direction.
Mass media representatives and bloggers paid special attention to the role of the media, the effective use of their opportunities in changing attitudes towards gender-based violence and the destruction of existing stereotypes.
The need was emphasized to organize large-scale events throughout the country at a high level within the framework of the campaign "16 days of active action against gender-based violence", to ensure the active participation of all in these events, to further strengthen interaction aimed at protecting the rights and interests of women, and to prevent cases of violence against them. , improving the status of women in society.
