Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 22 June 2021, a solemn event was held to mark the successful launch of another business project to create intensive gardening in the Kuvasoy Nodirjon farm, implemented with the assistance of a joint project of UNDP and the Chamber of Commerce and Industry “Building resilience and adaptation of farmers in Ferghana Valley to the risks of climate change”, carried out with the financial support of the Russian Federation.
The opening ceremony was attended by the khokim of the city of Kuvasay, the leadership of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, the Association of Business Women, the Plant Quarantine Inspectorate of the Fergana region, as well as farmers - gardeners, who with interest got acquainted with the results achieved in organizing a new intensive cherry orchard using modern technologies.
To implement the project worth over 570 million soums, the farm purchased and planted 6,700 seedlings of semi-dwarf cherry varieties on a total area of 10 hectares.
At the first stage of organizing the application of a water-saving irrigation method, a drip irrigation system was installed and launched for 6 hectares of the new garden. Also, for the effective use of land resources, the cultivation of vegetables such as onions, potatoes, beans and others is organized in the aisles.
As technical assistance for the successful implementation of this business project, UNDP purchased and supplied modern agricultural equipment. The total amount of technical assistance provided is over 150 million soums and includes a tractor and some attachments such as a plow for plowing, a mounted sprayer for gardening and a mounted fertilizer spreader. In addition, a number of seminars and trainings were organized for farmers, including representatives of the Kuvasoy Nodirjon farm, on such topics as: business planning, agrotechnical measures in horticulture and vegetable growing, disease and pest control, agricultural insurance, water saving technologies, post-harvest storage, etc.
“For our new garden with semi-cralik cherry varieties, the drip irrigation project was the most optimal solution in the face of a lack of irrigation water. Today we switched to drip irrigation on 6 hectares and came to the conclusion that thanks to this project we will now be able to efficiently use water, save on labor resources, time spent on irrigation, adapt to the risks of climate change, reduce damage to nature, as well as obtain economic benefit ", - commented the head of the farm Kuvasoy Nodirjon Murodzhon Mamatkhalilov.
As a result of the implementation of this project, 23 people will be employed, including 10 women. It is also expected that in the future the garden will bring about 875 million soums of annual income with a net profit of 120 million soums.
