Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The State Assay Office under the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Uzbekistan has launched a pilot project to support business entities - the provision of services for testing and branding jewelry in retail selling large shopping centers.
The State Assay Office is an authorized body that regulates activities with precious metals and precious stones, and is also responsible for assaying and hallmarking jewelry and other items made of precious metals and stones with the state assay hallmark. These products, according to the law, when offered for sale must go through the testing and branding procedure.
Moreover, the department in practice supports business representatives selling such products. Today 522 business entities in our country have permits for the implementation of this activity. The chamber examines their work on site and helps them comply with the requirements of the legislation on testing and branding products.
The new pilot project is an example of such assistance. It was launched to support conscientious domestic jewelry manufacturers and retail businesses. Its main task is to exclude substandard and counterfeit products from sales, create conditions for the legal sale of jewelry, reduce the share of the shadow economy in this area and protect the rights of consumers who must be sure of the quality and legitimacy of the purchased goods.
At the first stage, the mobile group of the State Assay Office provided assistance to business entities working in specialized stores in the Alai market of Tashkent. An open dialogue has been established with them, the emerging issues are explained in detail. On a voluntary basis, testing and branding of jewelry put up for sale is carried out.
Within the framework of the project, business entities are provided with practical assistance in working with documentation. For this, specialists from the licensing department are included in the mobile group. For example, out of 28 business entities registered on the market, 8 did not carry out these activities, and 4 worked without notifying the authorized body. With the assistance of the State Assay Office employees, they have issued the appropriate permits and now carry out their activities legally. This allowed them to avoid paying the statutory fine of 50 base calculated value.
It is planned that at the second stage of the project, the mobile group will provide practical assistance to specialized business entities in the Gold shopping center at the Chilanzar district, and at the third stage in the Chorsu shopping complex in the Shaykhontokhur district of the capital. During the next two months, the project is supposed to cover large shopping centers in the regional and tourist centers of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
