Prospects for strengthening Uzbek-Tajik relations discussed in Dushanbe

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 5 June, in Dushanbe, a meeting was held between Deputy Prime Minister - Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sardor Umurzakov and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Tajikistan Sirojiddin Mukhriddin.
The current state and prospects of deepening political, trade and economic, investment, cultural and humanitarian cooperation were considered.
The course of elaboration of bilateral documents and intergovernmental agreements, which are planned to be signed during the upcoming visit at the highest level, was discussed. The parties expressed their mutual readiness to mobilize all resources to expedite the coordination of existing issues and reach agreements on all items on the agenda of the event.
It was announced that the general priority in bilateral relations is to build up trade and economic partnership and expand industrial cooperation. In this regard, the priority tasks for the interaction of the relevant ministries and departments of the two countries were discussed, as well as measures to establish direct ties between representatives of the Uzbek and Tajik business communities. Further steps were outlined to fill the agenda of the visit at the highest level with practical content, bearing in mind firm agreements on the implementation of mutually beneficial joint projects and trade contracts.
An agreement was reached to continue active cooperation in the cultural and humanitarian sphere. So, in particular, the organization of mutual trips of workers of culture, art, science, as well as representatives of young people of the two fears to the regions of Uzbekistan and Tajikistan was agreed. Prospects for resuming bus service between major cities of the two states, such as Tashkent, Samarkand, Termez, Dushanbe, Khujand, Penjikent and others, were considered. An agreement was reached on joint work to promote the Silk Road tourism brand and implement projects to develop Ziyorat tourism.
The parties also agreed to develop cooperation within the framework of international and regional organizations, such as the United Nations Organization, the Shanghai Cooperation Organization and other international platforms.
Following the meeting, the parties outlined further actions in the framework of the discussed areas of cooperation.
