Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 3 March 2021, an online meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Friendship Group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan on cooperation with the Parliament of Japan was held.
Deputies, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Uzbekistan to Japan Gayrat Fazilov, Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Japan to the Republic of Uzbekistan Yoshinori Fujiyama also took part in the work of this event.
It was with satisfaction that it was remembered that the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev visited the Japanese parliament on 18 December 2019 and discussed with the Chairman of the House of Representatives of Japan Tadamori Oshima the issues of further development of inter-parliamentary relations. Within the framework of this meeting, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the inter-parliamentary group of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan with the Parliament of Japan and the inter-parliamentary group of the Parliament of Japan with the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan.
During the online meeting, the achieved results in bilateral cooperation, the development of inter-parliamentary dialogue, the provision of mutual support by the parties within the framework of international organizations, the establishment and strengthening of mutually beneficial trade and economic, political, legal and cultural and humanitarian ties were especially emphasized.
The sides expressed their readiness to continue building up inter-parliamentary partnership on a wide range of issues of mutual interest.
At the talks, the importance of further deepening inter-parliamentary ties in expanding bilateral cooperation was noted, since they play an important role in the early ratification of international treaties for the further expansion of bilateral cooperation in all areas.
Concern was expressed about the scale of the spread of the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic in the world. The parties informed each other about the measures being taken in Uzbekistan and Japan to counter this global threat. The special role of parliamentarians in the fight against coronavirus, aimed at preventing the negative consequences of the pandemic, was emphasized.
In the same vein, attention was focused on the need to intensify bilateral cooperation in order to prevent the negative impact of the pandemic on trade and economic relations between the two countries.
In his speeches, Akmal Saidov wished Japan successful holding of the Olympic and Paralympic Games this year, which, as the Prime Minister of Japan, Mr. Yoshihide Suga, correctly noted, should mark the victory of the international community over the coronavirus.
The Uzbek side has invited young Japanese parliamentarians to participate in the World Conference on Youth Rights.
The parties came to a common opinion in the future to support the initiatives of both countries at the sites of international organizations.
The parliamentarians reaffirmed their mutual determination to actively develop full-scale cooperation between the two countries.
