The greenhouse industry is entering a qualitatively new stage

21/01/2021 17:57

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - When President Shavkat Mirziyoyev first visited the Bukhoro Varnet enterprise in 2019, work here was just beginning. Today it is turning into a modern agro-industrial complex.

Previously, there was only a greenhouse, but now a training center, a laboratory, and a plant for the production of structures for greenhouses are being organized next to it. In general, everything that is needed for modern greenhouses will be manufactured here.

During the current visit, the head of state got acquainted with the new capabilities of this complex.

- We have been dealing with greenhouses for so many years, but there were no professionals. Now this direction is reaching a qualitatively new level, - said Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

The soil in the region is predominantly sandy and saline, and the water resources are small. In such places, the hydroponic method is very convenient for growing agricultural products. Therefore, by the decree of the President of 10 July 2018, a free economic zone "Bukhoro-Agro" was created. 3 thousand hectares of land have been allocated for this zone in the Dzhandar, Kagan, Peshkun, Romitan and Bukhara regions. Direct investments have been attracted and broad conditions have been created for growing, processing and exporting agricultural products through the cluster system.

The result of these opportunities is the Bukhoro Varnet enterprise. The total cost of the project is more than US$120 million, all of this amount is foreign direct investment.

To date, US$10 million of foreign investment has been spent, a greenhouse has been built on 13 hectares, and more than 260 jobs have been created. Construction is underway on another 17 hectares.

Last year, products worth about 20 billion soums were produced, goods worth 1 million dollars were exported. This year it is planned to attract US$26 million in foreign direct investment.

113 hectares of land have been allocated for the enterprise, which, after reaching full capacity, will have a production capacity of 33.8 thousand tons per year, which will help create a total of about 2 thousand jobs.

During a trip to Khorezm region on 12 December 2020, the President noted the need to open training centers at large greenhouses, train entrepreneurs and young people interested in this business in them. The head of state visited such a training center at the Bukhoro Varnet enterprise.

- Why is this system important? First, our youth will be trained online by specialists from developed countries. Secondly, the materials needed for the greenhouses will be localized. The most important thing is to produce products that are in demand on the market, - emphasized Shavkat Mirziyoyev.

A presentation on the development of the agrarian and food industry of the Bukhara region in 2021 was held. The common goal of all projects is to make agriculture a driver in providing employment and increasing incomes of the population.
