Talks with the British Ambassador for Human Rights takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 21 January 2021, an online meeting was held between the First Deputy Speaker of the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan AkmalSaidov with the British Ambassador for Human Rights, Deputy Head of the Permanent Mission of Great Britain to the UN and other missions in Geneva Rita French.
The British Ambassador to Uzbekistan, Tim Thorlow, also took part in this event.
During the online meeting, the event participants were informed about the ongoing large-scale democratic reforms carried out in Uzbekistan under the leadership of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, reforms in the field of protection and ensuring human rights, the preparation of a new version of the law "On freedom of conscience and religious relations", the implementation of the project on the development of the capacity of the Commission of the Oliy Majlis for monitoring the international obligations of Uzbekistan in the field of human rights in cooperation with the British organization Global Partners Governance and others.
The Uzbek side shared information on the phased implementation of the National Strategy on Human Rights, the elimination of child labor, the implementation of international labor standards and norms, new laws adopted, the strengthening of women’s rights, the facilitation of the registration procedure for NGOs, the strengthening of the protection of media freedom, etc.
At the talks, the importance of further deepening ties in expanding bilateral cooperation was noted, since it is they who play an important role in the early ratification of international treaties for the further expansion of bilateral cooperation in all areas.
Concern was expressed about the scale of the spread of the coronavirus in the world. The parties informed each other about the measures being taken in Uzbekistan and Great Britain to counter this global threat. The special role of parliamentarians in the fight against coronavirus, aimed at preventing the negative consequences of the pandemic, was emphasized.
In the same vein, attention was focused on the need to intensify bilateral interaction in order to prevent the negative impact of the pandemic on trade and economic relations between the two countries.
At the conclusion of the online negotiations, the mutual commitment to the comprehensive strengthening of relations and practical cooperation between the Republic of Uzbekistan and the UK was confirmed.
