Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- In connection with information that appeared in the media about the introduction by the Federal Service for Veterinary and Phytosanitary Supervision of the Russian Federation (Rosselkhoznadzor), a ban on the import of tomatoes and peppers into Russia from the Ferghana region, the Ministry of Investment and Foreign Trade reports the following.
Together with the State Plant Quarantine Inspectorate under the Cabinet of Ministers and the Embassy of the Republic of Uzbekistan in the Russian Federation, consultations are being held on this issue with the Rosselkhoznadzor.
According to the Russian side, the restrictions were introduced in connection with the detection of the tomato brown rugose fruit virus (ToBRFV) in a separate batch of tomatoes from the Ferghana region.
At the same time, earlier on the territory of Uzbekistan ToBRFV was not recorded because it is a new strain of plant virus. In relation to this virus, there is also no ban in the EAEU countries - ToBRFV is not included in the Unified List of Quarantine Objects, approved by the Decision of the Council of the Eurasian Economic Commission.
The Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade, together with the State Plant Quarantine Inspectorate under the Cabinet of Ministers, initiated the operational development of a set of measures to prevent the appearance of such viruses in products manufactured in Uzbekistan.
It should also be noted that the restrictions introduced by Rosselkhoznadzor do not apply to all manufacturers of Uzbekistan and apply only to products from Ferghana region.
Consultations with the Russian side continue. Measures are being taken to abolish the imposed restrictions in the near future.
