Ambassador of Romania to the Republic of Uzbekistan Daniel Cristian Ciobanu stressed that the National Day is a very important event for Romanians around the world.
“This year we also celebrated the 160th anniversary of Romanian diplomacy. On this occasion, we held a number of public diplomacy events, including my ascent to the Hazrat Sultan peak - 4083 m in the Kashkadarya region, where I recorded a congratulatory video message on the Independence Day of Uzbekistan (on 20 August), a gift of Romanian books to the National Library of Uzbekistan (Tashkent, on 6 September), the transfer of medical equipment for the Multifunctional Medical Center in the Surkhandarya region (Termez, on 7 September) and the opening of two alternative preschool institutions in the Khorezm region (Sayot and Shorkol districts of the Khiva region, on 25 October). The last two projects were implemented with the help of the UNICEF office in Uzbekistan,” said Daniel Cristian Ciobanu.
According to him, the development of bilateral relations with Uzbekistan is one of Romania’s priorities in the Central Asian region.
“We highly appreciate and are ready to support the process of reforms and modernization in Uzbekistan, which was shown in my speech at the opening of the International Conference “Implementation of the constitutional principle “Man – Society – State”: domestic and foreign experience.” (Urgench, on 20 June 2022)," added Daniel Cristian Ciobanu.
The Ambassador welcomed the very good Romanian-Uzbek political relations and the positive dynamics of sectoral cooperation, including the successful consultations held between the State Secretary for Strategic Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Romania, Mr. Julian Fota, and the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan, Mr. Gairat Fazilov (on 18 November 2022, Samarkand).
The Ambassador recalled the growth of bilateral trade, which in the first 8 months of this year grew by more than 5.3 times compared to the same period of last year (according to Romanian statistics). At the same time, 2021 has been one of the best years of our relationship in the last decade in terms of the level of bilateral trade.
He thanked the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan for its valuable support of the many public and cultural diplomacy events organized this year by the Embassy of Romania in cooperation with various partners, including the exhibition "Romania’s Contribution to the World Heritage" (National Library of Uzbekistan, January), a photo exhibition on the work of the great sculptor Constantin Brynkushi (Tashkent House of Photography, February), presentation of the national traditions of the celebration of the meeting of spring "Martisor" (British School in Tashkent, March), screening of the film "Wild Romania" (French Alliance in Tashkent, March), exhibition of national Romanian costumes (Museum applied arts of the Republic of Uzbekistan, June), Days of Romanian Cinema (Tashkent International Film Festival, September), exhibition “George Enescu.
