Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A conference of the Valdai International Discussion Club and the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan “Russia and Uzbekistan facing the challenges of development and security at a new historical stage of interaction” has opened in Tashkent.
Among the Russian speakers who opened the event were Deputy Foreign Minister of Russia Andrei Rudenko, Chairman of the Council of the Fund for Development and Support of the Valdai Club Andrei Bystritsky.
On behalf of the host, the participants were greeted by the First Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Uzbekistan Farkhod Arziev and Director of the Institute for Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Eldor Aripov.
From the speech of the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Russia Andrei Rudenko at the Uzbek-Russian conference in Tashkent:
- Russia’s policy in Central Asia is as open as possible, we have no secret agenda and, unlike other countries, we have no ideas or plans to put the countries of the region in front of a geopolitical choice: who are you with - with Russia or against Russia
- We are preparing for the state visit of Shavkat Mirziyoyev to Russia, which is intended to become a historic milestone in our relations. A very serious package of documents has been prepared, primarily in the trade and economic sphere, but also in other areas, including defense
- Although Uzbekistan suspended its participation in the CSTO back in 2012, we view Tashkent as a reliable and loyal ally.
