How the infrastructure of economic zones will improve?

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A press conference of the Ministry of Investments and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Uzbekistan was held at the Agency of Information and Mass Communications to discuss the further development of the engineering and communication infrastructure of free economic and small industrial zones in the Republic.
The event was attended by the First Deputy Minister of Investments and Foreign Trade A. Voitov, as well as experts and employees of the Ministry.
It was noted that the decision made by the Head of State to further improve the activities of free economic and small industrial zones is an important step in increasing the efficiency of using the economic potential of the Republic and improving conditions for the development of industry and entrepreneurship.
It was announced that currently there are 23 free economic zones in the country with a total area of 8,800 hectares, of which 895 investment projects totaling US$5.3 billion have been placed on 3.9 thousand hectares. About 5 thousand hectares remain unused, which means that it is possible to place new investment projects on them, create industrial capacities and create additional jobs. At the same time, it was emphasized that about half of these areas have not yet been provided with the necessary engineering and communication infrastructure.
Also in the Republic there are 348 small industrial zones, the total area of which is 2.4 thousand hectares. About 3,587 investment projects worth 16.7 trillion soums have been placed on 1.6 thousand hectares. At the same time, 60 functioning small industrial zones are not fully provided with the necessary engineering and communication infrastructure.
Ensuring the connection of free economic and small industrial zones to utility networks is one of the key factors of a favorable environment to stimulate the accelerated development of their activities, in connection with which, this year, for measures for the construction of external engineering and communication networks for free economic and small industrial zones allocated 1.6 trillion soums, and in 2022 - 1.8 trillion soums.
The implementation of these measures will provide engineering and communication infrastructure for 3.2 out of 4.9 thousand hectares of vacant land in free economic zones and 822 hectares in small industrial zones. In accordance with the document, an address list was approved to provide each free economic zone and small industrial zone with the necessary infrastructure.
This year in free economic zones it is planned to launch 332 projects worth US$1.1 billion, and in small industrial zones - 1,845 projects worth 9.5 trillion soums. Their implementation will create 20,298 new jobs. These projects are being implemented in such promising areas as the oil and gas industry, electrical engineering, production of building materials, light industry, agriculture, pharmaceuticals and tourism. Their implementation will also allow by the end of this year to additionally export products worth US$400 million, produce import-substituting goods worth US$350 million and provide additional revenues to the state budget in the amount of over 2 trillion soums.
