Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- The Embassy of Uzbekistan in the Benelux countries organized a presentation at the Brussels Press Club on the topic "Promoting innovative European investments in Uzbekistan as a tool to stimulate economic growth and create new jobs", dedicated to the implementation of the 1.55 GW in the Surkhandarya region.
As a reminder, on 19 April, within the framework of a public-private partnership between JSC National Electric Grids and Stone City Energy (the Netherlands), an Investment Agreement was signed on the construction of a new thermal power plant, as well as an Agreement on the purchase of electricity from this thermal power plant on PPP principles. The cost of the project for the construction of a TPP with a capacity of 1,560 MW is US$1.2 billion. The project launch date is the end of 2024. The project envisages the creation of over 2,000 jobs. For construction, 150 hectares of land were allocated in the Angora district of Surkhandarya region.
The event, held in a mixed format, was attended by representatives of the business community of the Benelux countries, experts from a number of leading European think tanks, institutions of the European Union, the leadership of the Energy Charter Secretariat, as well as the media.
Presentations were made on the topics "New European mega-investments in the energy sector of Uzbekistan", "Investment forecast and cooperation with Uzbekistan", "Cooperation with Uzbekistan in the field of energy efficiency and other areas", "Investment climate and the importance of cooperation between Uzbekistan and international legal mechanisms" and others. ...
It was emphasized that the project, implemented through direct private foreign investment within the framework of public-private partnership, became possible largely thanks to the President's initiatives aimed at pursuing an open, pragmatic and deeply thought-out foreign policy, opening the economy to external investors, and fundamentally reforming the energy sector, attracting modern knowledge and technologies to it.
During the presentation of the project for the construction of a new TPP, it was noted that the latest equipment from Siemens Energy (Germany), which will be the most efficient in Central Asia, will be used to generate energy.
Secretary General of the Energy Charter Secretariat Urban Rusnak stressed that the project being implemented in Surkhandarya region of Uzbekistan is indeed a breakthrough investment event. “This is a very important project that will serve both the economic development of Uzbekistan and the protection of the environment, thanks to the high efficiency of the equipment used. In addition, the implementation of such a large-scale project on the basis of public-private partnership demonstrates the maturity of the country's economy and will serve to ensure the stability of energy supply to both the population and enterprises,” said Urban Rusnak.
