Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan held the first meeting of the Uzbekistan-Azerbaijan Business Council on 27 November 2020. This was reported by the press service of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
Chairman of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan and co-chairman of the Uzbek part of the Business Council Adham Ikramov noted that Uzbekistan highly values the traditionally friendly relations between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, based on the principles of mutual understanding and trust.
The Uzbek side proposed to intensify interaction in the field of information technologies, the implementation of joint projects aimed at developing e-commerce and "online platforms" to increase trade between the countries of the Business Council.
Further, from the Uzbek side, presentations were made in the field of tourism, the pharmaceutical industry, as well as agriculture, where the participants got acquainted with the investment potential and opportunities of Uzbekistan for business development.
The Azerbaijani side made presentations on the business climate and investment opportunities in Azerbaijan, as well as on the economic potential of Karabakh.
At the meeting, which was held in the online format, the parties discussed measures of practical and long-term mutual cooperation between Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, as well as the possibility of expanding direct economic ties between the regions and major cities of the two countries. The possibilities of cooperation in the field of tourism and agriculture were also considered.
During the meeting, the parties discussed the issue of opening representative offices of ASK and the CCI of Uzbekistan in the respective countries. All this will provide an opportunity to expand the investment and trade potential in general.
Following the event, the parties considered the issue of the date and place of the next meeting of the Uzbek-Azerbaijan Business Council.
As of January 2020, 178 enterprises with the participation of Azerbaijani capital operate in Uzbekistan, of which 63 are joint ventures and 115 enterprises with 100% foreign capital.
Only for the period from January to September 2020, the trade turnover between our countries made up US$61.7 million (+ 41.9%), incl. exports - US$40.7 million (+ 24.1%), imports - US$21 million (+ 96.1%).
