Uzbekistan to restore its full participation in JINR

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Uzbekistan will restore full participation in the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR) from 2021. This was reported by the press service of the Academy of Sciences of Uzbekistan.
On 23 November 2020, the annual session of the Committee of Plenipotentiaries (CP) of the Member States of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research (JINR, Dubna) was held.
One of the issues on the agenda of the session was the restoration of full membership of the Joint Institute for Nuclear Research of the Republic of Uzbekistan. As a result, a unanimous decision was made to restore full membership of the Republic of Uzbekistan from 1 January 2021.
The country’s full participation in the institute was suspended in 2015 due to debts to it. To date, more than 60% of the debt has been paid off. The remainder will be paid over 20 years.
The Joint Institute for Nuclear Research is a large international intergovernmental organization, a world renowned scientific center, which is a unique example of the successful integration of fundamental and applied research with the development and application of the latest technologies. JINR’s rating in the world scientific community is very high.
The Institute, located in the science city Dubna, Moscow region, unites 18 states - Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Bulgaria, Vietnam, Georgia, Kazakhstan, DPRK, Cuba, Moldova, Mongolia, Poland, Russia, Romania, Slovakia, Uzbekistan, Ukraine and the Czech Republic.
Participation in JINR gives Uzbek specialists the opportunity to participate in large international projects, and will also contribute to the training of personnel in the field of nuclear technology, nuclear medicine, information technology and materials science, the Academy of Sciences said.
