Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Jizzakh Organiс has started breeding bulls to produce marbled beef. The cluster will also supply the market with odorless dietary mutton and easily digestible A2 milk.
On 20 November, Jizzakh Organic, the largest agricultural cluster of Uzbekistan, organized a press tour for journalists. A tour of the grounds was led by chief breeder Rodney J. Guildford.
The total investment of Jizzakh Organic as of 31 October 2020 made up US$62 million. By the end of 2022, this figure will reach US$150 million.
For the creation of a fodder base, the khokimiyat of Jizzakh region allocated 10.7 thousand hectares to the cluster, of which 5.6 thousand hectares were sown already in 2020.
“We are constantly working to restore fertility to lands that have not been used for the last 30 years. For this, organic fertilizers, planting alternation and advanced German agricultural machinery are used. This year, our cluster returned to the crop rotation 1.5 thousand hectares, next year it will return another 4.5 thousand hectares. To provide the herd with a balanced diet, the fields are sown with 5 crops: wheat, barley, corn, alfalfa and pasture grasses, which alternate with mung bean, soybeans and sunflowers to increase the land value,” said Jizzakh Organic chief agronomist Asanov Rustam.
The Jizzakh Organic agricultural machinery park includes 164 units with a total value of US$10 million. To make the impact on the soil to a minimum, several operations are carried out in one pass of the technique, as well as targeted fertilization and shallow tillage are practiced.
The volume of investments of the national cluster in crop production amounted to US$15.3 million. By the end of 2022, this figure will reach US$23 million. The activities of the national cluster Jizzakh Organic are supported by the khokimiyat of Jizzakh region.
The dairy farm was designed by the Italian company Rota Guido Srl. The complex includes a dairy block, a cowshed, calf houses, calving boxes, quarantine zones, fodder storages, walking areas, and a complex for separating manure into bedding for animals. The barn is equipped with fodder stands, heated drinkers with artesian water supply, a climate control system, curtains for protection from climatic conditions and an automatic manure removal system.
“A comfortable microclimate is essential for ruminants. It has been scientifically proven that cows sleep less and produce more milk when properly cared for. The optimal daylight hours are 16 hours. In winter, the required lighting level will be created with the help of innovative lighting devices. Also, for a good appetite in the room, it is necessary to maintain a certain temperature regime, since cold and heat lead to a decrease in milk yield. The barn temperature must not drop below 10 ° C and rise above 32 ° C,” said Rodney J. Guilford, head breeder at Jizzakh Organic.
In 2022, Jizzakh Organic will import Holstein-Friesian cows from Europe, capable of producing up to 30 liters of milk per day. The cluster will become the first producer of A2 milk in Uzbekistan, which is characterized by high digestibility and a reduced risk of allergic reactions. The target milk production capacity is 35 thousand tons of milk per year.
The construction of a dairy farm is 30% completed. The volume of investments as of 31October2020 is US$12.5 million. By the end of 2022, investments will increase to US$53 million.
Today, the Jizzakh Organic beef herd numbers almost 5 thousand heads of Angus and Hereford breeds. On its basis, the cluster will establish the first stage of marbled beef production in Uzbekistan. The 590 Angus that came a year ago gave birth to 220 calves, and in October this year another 4 thousand heifers arrived from Russia and the USA. The cows received the necessary vaccinations, underwent an ultrasound scan and are in loose housing in the winter camp. The parking lot is equipped with a loading and unloading area and a livestock complex "Coral".
Complex Coral is designed for stress-free livestock procedures. It allows you to create an orderly stream of animals and categorize them. Vacuum machines are used to fix cows and bulls during weighing, inspection and vaccination. Weighing the herd is required on a monthly basis to detect abnormalities, feed adjustments or complete veterinary examinations in time, said Jizzakh Organic Chief Breeder Rodney J. Guilford.
Heifers are divided into age groups and fed according to approved diets. Jizzakh Organic has developed more than 50 feeding programs, which depend on the age and purpose of the animal.
To improve taste and increase nutritional value, the grain is subjected to extrusion (grinding under pressure and high temperature). Now the cluster specialists are working on the launch of a steam mill and hydroponics workshops (germinating grain without soil). This will increase the feed digestibility from 40% to 98%.
The first batch of environmentally friendly, fine-grained beef will appear in the Saxovat chain of stores this year.
Valley Jizzakh Organic installed 20 km of main pipes to install the latest generation of American irrigation systems.
“Sprinklers reduce water consumption and directly affect production costs. We have chosen the concept of free grazing of animals, this is the most comfortable type of keeping. Being outdoors all year round strengthens immunity and minimizes herd stress. Once we have sowed the area with pasture grass and installed sprinkler installations, we get a self-renewing food base in the arid Jizzakh region. In addition, grazing animals fertilize the land, which promotes active plant growth. Thus, in the warm season, we do not spend money on feed, thus reducing the cost of meat, ”said Dmitry Klinkin, chief hydraulic engineer at Jizzakh Organic.
The irrigation complex covered 600 hectares of pastures and forage crops. In 2021, Jizzakh Organic will install sprinklers on an additional 3,300 hectares.
In November 2020, the national cluster brought 2,100 Dorper sheep and rams from Australia to Uzbekistan. These animals are unpretentious in food and tolerate hot, arid climate well. The daily weight gain of rams reaches 700 grams, and the meat does not have a specific smell.
“Dorper is a South African breed, but we were the first in Uzbekistan to choose import not from South Africa, but from Australia. This is due to the fact that there is no change of seasons in South Africa, and animals would have difficulty adapting. Several generations of our rams lived in Australia, thanks to which they got used to wind, heat and temperature extremes. Dorpers are easy to care for, do not need to be clipped and eat more than 400 species of plants, which also reduces the cost of their maintenance and reduces the cost of the final product. In addition, sheep of this breed in 70% of cases in the second offspring bring two lambs. This will allow us to increase the herd population in a short time”, said the chief livestock technician of Jizzakh Organic Sergey Baryshnikov.
According to the forecasts of Jizzakh Organic experts, in 2021 the number of pedigree sheep herds will reach 6,000 heads, and in 2022 dietary lamb will go to retail outlets. The volume of investments of the cluster in sheep breeding as of 31 October 2020 is US$2.8 million. By the end of 2022, the investment will amount to US$9.6 million.
