Senate Chairperson in Switzerland: Strategic partnerships are based on friendships

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva is on a working visit to Geneva these days. During her stay, the head of the upper house of parliament met with the Secretary General of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Martin Chungong and Ambassador, head of the Permanent Representative of India to the UN Office at Geneva and other international organizations in Switzerland, Indra Mani Pandey.
The IPU Secretary General congratulated the Republic of Uzbekistan on its election to the UN Human Rights Council and noted that during the past period a solid foundation has been created for deepening cooperation between Uzbekistan and the IPU.
- Thanks to the strong political will of the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev, in a short time the country managed to achieve fundamental changes in building a democratic rule of law and an open civil society. The experience of Uzbekistan over the past 4 years in improving parliamentarism, gender equality and youth policy should be disseminated among other countries as a successful example.
Mr. Chungong praised the ongoing political, socio-economic reforms in our country, especially noting the initiative of President Shavkat Mirziyoyev during the 75th session of the UN General Assembly to adopt a special UN General Assembly resolution on enhancing the role of parliaments in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs ) and ensuring human rights.
The Secretary General emphasized the regular participation of the delegation of Uzbekistan in the events of the IPU and joint cooperation on the submission of a voluntary national review in the field of sustainable development to the UN in June this year.
In addition, noting the progress achieved by Uzbekistan in ensuring gender equality, the personal qualities of the head of the upper chamber of parliament Tanzila Narbaeva, as well as the interest of the Uzbek side, the Ministry of Railways expressed its readiness to consider the possibility of organizing in Uzbekistan in 2021, a regional event with the participation of parliamentarians from CA countries and in 2022, the Global Summit of Women Speakers of Parliaments. Moreover, according to M. Chungong, the reforms carried out with our country on the development of the youth parliament will make it possible to hold a similar event in the future.
On the same day, the head of the upper chamber of the Uzbek parliament, Tanzila Narbaeva, met with the Indian ambassador Indra Mani Pandey, who congratulated our country on being elected to the UN Human Rights Council.
It was noted that the strategic partnership between Uzbekistan and India is rapidly developing on the basis of friendly and close relations. Moreover, as a result of visits to the highest level in recent years, it has risen to a new level.
Delhi is interested in strengthening large-scale ties with Tashkent, the ambassador said. During the meeting, they also talked about the achievements in various fields within the framework of cooperation between the two countries.
