A presentation of the national “Mapping research and innovation in the Republic of Uzbekistan” takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 27 October 2020, an official presentation of the National Review "Mapping research and innovation in the Republic of Uzbekistan", prepared by UNESCO experts and specialists from the Ministry of Innovative Development, was held within the framework of the joint project of UNESCO and the Islamic Development Bank " Strengthening an inclusive system of science, technology and innovation in Uzbekistan. "
The event was attended by First Deputy Minister of Innovative Development Shahlo Turdikulova, Adviser to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for Science, Education and Innovation Hayat Sindi, Deputy Director General of UNESCO Shamila Nair-Bedul, Head of UNESCO Office in Tashkent Y. Khladik and UN Resident Representative in Uzbekistan H. Fraser. and the representative of the Permanent Delegation of UNESCO in the Republic of Uzbekistan F. Fayzullaev. In addition, more than 130 representatives of international organizations and research institutes of our country took part in the event.
This project was launched by the Islamic Development Bank and UNESCO in December 2019, the significance of the work carried out by representatives of UNESCO, the IDB, together with the Ministry of Innovation to study the system of science, technology and innovation (STI) in Uzbekistan, identifying current problems of scientific and innovative development and the existing infrastructure, was noted, and also the development of a number of recommendations for improving the STI system.
Representatives of the Islamic Development Bank noted the uniqueness of the report based on the "GO-SPIN" methodology, as a result of which it is possible to identify current problems in the national policy in the field of STI and develop new mechanisms and tools for its maintenance and further scientific and innovative development. The foreign side noted that the national review of Uzbekistan will become an example for many developing economies in the formation of a system and policy in the field of STI.
During the meeting, Deputy Director General of UNESCO Shamila Nair-Bedul emphasized the important role of science and innovation in health care, improving the economic situation of countries in the context of today’s pandemic. The preparation of this National Review with the support of international organizations will lay a solid foundation for the further development of science and innovation in Uzbekistan, as well as attract the attention of many leading foreign countries to the reforms being carried out in Uzbekistan, in particular, in science, education and innovation.
Adviser to the President of the Islamic Development Bank (IDB) for Science, Education and Innovation Ms Hayat Sindi noted that this project is the first step taken by international organizations to develop science and innovation in Uzbekistan and lays the foundation for attracting more foreign technical support in the future. Ms. Sindi expressed hope that thanks to this project, science and innovations of Uzbekistan will enter the international arena.
Following the meeting, the parties agreed to implement the second stage of the joint project "Strengthening the inclusive system of science, technology and innovation in Uzbekistan" and the continuation of close cooperation in the field of science.
