Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- Transport emissions, industrial pollution and destruction of the ecosystem every year more and more significantly affect air pollution. As a result, the number of oncological, respiratory, cardiovascular diseases is growing.
To overcome these problems, first of all, it is necessary to conduct high-quality air monitoring - to measure the degree of its pollution with various substances. Research results allow targeted measures to be taken to reduce air pollution and negative effects on human health.
The day before, with the participation of representatives of the United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), the United Nations Economic Commission for Europe, the United Nations Development Program, the State Committee on Ecology and Environmental Protection and others, a round table was held to discuss air quality issues, its monitoring and the availability of information on his condition.
The event was attended by the Chairperson of the Board of Trustees of the Zamin Foundation Ziroat Mirziyoyeva and shared her views on these issues.
Bruno Pozzi, UN Environment Regional Director for Europe, said: “Air pollution knows no boundaries. This affects all of us, and we must all join forces to address it: governments, NGOs, civil society, academia, business and industry. Everyone has the right to breathe clean air. This is even more important now that we are facing a global public health crisis. ”
With the support of the Zamin Foundation and UNEP, the Center for the Hydrometeorological Service is implementing the project “Automation of air pollution monitoring” in three stages.
To date, the first stage of the project has been implemented, within the framework of which 63 observation points have been combined into a single analytical center. Monitoring results are posted on the monitoring.meteo.uz public online platform and in the AirUz mobile application.
The second stage provides for the installation of automatic air monitoring stations throughout the country and the adoption of international standards in air monitoring.
The third stage is the integration of monitoring results into the unified geoinformation database of the republic and international information systems.
The stations will be installed with grant funds and as a result of full commissioning, air quality monitoring will be carried out hourly in accordance with international standards. Citizens will be able to find out exactly the level of air pollution at their place of residence and its causes.
