Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 6 July 2020, the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sherzod Asadov took part in a high-level conference on the topic “Effective governance and the fight against corruption in the digital age: strengthening the principles of transparency, integrity and accountability”, organized by Organization for Security and Co-operation in Europe (OSCE) in videoconference format.
The event was attended by the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office, the Prime Minister and Minister for European and Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Albania, Edi Rama, the OSCE Secretary General Thomas Greminger, the UN Deputy Secretary General - Executive Director of the UN Office on Drugs and Crime Gada Vali, representatives of participating countries OSCE and international structures.
An exchange of views took place on issues of strengthening the accountability of state structures, increasing the role of digital technologies, innovations, the media and civil society in the fight against corruption.
The Deputy Foreign Minister of Uzbekistan informed the conference participants about the ongoing large-scale reforms in our country aimed at preventing corruption in all spheres of life.
Sherzod Asadov emphasized that in Uzbekistan the fight against corruption has been elevated to the rank of state policy. The country's leadership pays special attention to improving the organizational and legal mechanisms, strengthening the legal culture of the population, increasing the role of the media and civil society in the fight against corruption.
In this regard, the Anti-Corruption Agency has recently been created, which is a specially authorized body for the development and implementation of state policy in this area.
