Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) - Japan intends to support Uzbekistan in every possible way in the fight against the crisis caused by coronavirus infection, the Dunyo news agency reported with reference to the Japanese Embassy in Tashkent.
In particular, the government of Japan approved the allocation of financial assistance in the amount of US$3 million for the implementation of the project “Empowerment of rural women” through the Japan Social Development Fund of the World Bank.
The project aims to provide approximately 3,500 women living in Ferghana, Jizzakh and Kashkadarya regions with vocational training, improved access to financial services, and the creation of jobs and opportunities for entrepreneurship. Thanks to this project, 300 small and medium-sized enterprises will be able to receive funds for doing business, 1,500 new jobs will be created, which will provide strong support to enterprises and citizens affected by the coronavirus crisis.
In addition, the Japanese government is currently processing a request from Uzbekistan in order to provide Avigan in the near future, a promising drug for the treatment of a new type of coronavirus infection that has attracted worldwide attention.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan, the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Japan-sponsored UN organizations plan to provide Uzbekistan free of charge advanced medical equipment and materials for combating coronavirus, including personal protective equipment, mechanical ventilation devices, digital X-ray diagnostic equipment, etc.
In addition to the aforementioned support, the Japanese side is also taking initiatives for mutual support at the private level. In addition, a citizen of Uzbekistan Halimov Muzaffar, who lives in Tashkent and works in a Japanese company, donated medical masks to this chamber.
In order to prevent the spread of coronavirus, many citizens of Uzbekistan, staying at home, work remotely and undergo online training. Given the current situation, the request of the National Television and Radio Company of Uzbekistan, as well as the need to provide the population with a comfortable pastime, with the assistance of the Japan Foundation, a decision was made to relay the popular Japanese TV series NHK Oshin (dubbing in Uzbek).
As part of supporting the expansion of online learning for schoolchildren, the Embassy of Japan in Tashkent is considering a request from the Ministry of Public Education of Uzbekistan to provide educational and educational DVD programs in various fields, such as history, nature, science, and technology in Japan.
