Tashkent Metallurgical Plant intends to become one of the industrial leaders in the region

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) – Metallurgy is considered one of the key sectors of the economy in those countries of the world that today are leaders in industrial production. It is it that gives the opportunity to dominate the global market to many other industries, providing, for example, manufacturers with quality rental.
To date, the best types of metallurgical products are produced in the USA, Japan, Russia and Western Europe. Producers from these countries annually not only meet the needs of the domestic market, but also send rolled metal worth hundreds of millions of dollars abroad. And this is happening against the backdrop of an increasing demand for quality rental.
In recent decades, there has been a certain deficit in this sector in the world, as new large enterprises practically do not appear. The reason here is simple - the launch of new metallurgical capacities is a very expensive pleasure and only countries with developed economies and infrastructure can afford it. That is why a high-quality and effective implementation of the project to create the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant (TMZ) is so important for Uzbekistan.
According to experts, the new plant will be of strategic importance, as it will become the first company in the country to produce cold rolled metal with a protective anti-corrosion coating for the construction industry.
Another important point - in Uzbekistan, an active implementation of the import substitution and localization program is underway. A certain part of this work will be assigned to the TMZ, which is being built in Zangiata district. Putting it into operation will reduce the republic’s dependence on imports of metallurgical products and significantly increase its industrial potential.
“If we talk about domestic metallurgy, I think that it is developing within the framework of global trends. There are many examples, such as Uzmetkombinat, AGMK, NGMK and other plants that are rapidly modernizing today. In general, metallurgy has shown a real breakthrough over the past 2-3 years forward. The basis of this process is a competent combination of science and production. And, of course, TMZ should become a new point for the growth of domestic metallurgy," said the Deputy Dean of the Department of Mining and Metallurgy of the Tashkent State University of Technology Sohibjon Matkarimov.
Design and construction work at the Tashkent Metallurgical Plant is carried out by the Russian group of companies MetProm, one of the leading companies in this direction in the CIS. The construction of the facility began in 2017 on an empty territory without any infrastructure. In a short time, the main structures were built here, the road and other necessary communications were laid.
Currently, the construction of the main workshop and infrastructure facilities is underway, the supply and installation of technological equipment is underway, external networks, pipelines, gas and electricity networks are being laid.
In addition, modern equipment from Austria, Germany, Russia and Italy is being installed at this gigantic enterprise worth 326.7 million euros.
“Our company has already implemented similar projects in other countries. I am very pleased that we are participating in this project in Uzbekistan as the main supplier of equipment. For the high-quality implementation, the entire Danieli technical team was involved, and together with the working group, it selects the optimal technological solutions, as much as possible adapted for Uzbekistan, "said the representative of the Italian company Danieli, Marco Brutomesso.
The plant will produce metal sheets for car bodies, household appliances, as well as corrugated board and other products.
“This project includes a full production cycle for the production of cold-rolled steel with a polymer coating, which will be very popular in the country and far beyond its borders. The products will compete with analogues from leading world manufacturers,” said Vladimir Dyakonov, head of sheet rolling shop at TMZ.
Due to its proximity to Tashkent, the construction of TMZ pays special attention to the environmental safety of the plant. Ovens will not be used here, as a result the emission of dust and gas will be negligible.
"The peculiarity of our enterprise is that all production processes will be carried out in a closed cycle, which means that practically no waste will be generated here. Now more than 1.3 thousand people are engaged in construction and installation works. The first production is scheduled for May 2020," - said the head of the technical control department of the construction management of TMZ Olim Kurbanov.
Water used in the production will be treated with special filters and returned to the process, and not discharged into the environment. Atmospheric emissions will also be cleaned and minimized. According to expert estimates, the amount of gas emitted from the plant in one year will be less than daily emissions into the capital’s atmosphere.
Note that all the equipment at the plant meets European standards and environmental requirements. As a result, TMZ will become one of the greenest enterprises in Uzbekistan.
Tashkent Metallurgical Plant is also a partnership project between the public and private sectors. Its financing is carried out at the expense of the Fund for Reconstruction and Development of Uzbekistan, Asaka Bank and Roseximbank.
“Now we are at the stage of installation of the main technological equipment, the construction cycle has already been completed, that is, all concrete preparatory work has been completed, the staff has been competitively recruited, people are trained in Russia, Turkey and Italy. After the plant reaches its production capacity, the first stage will be annually 500 thousand tons of cold-rolled products were produced and about 700 jobs were created, "said Valery Osin, chief engineer at TMZ.
After the plant reaches full capacity, 20% of its products will be exported to Iran, Turkey, Afghanistan, Azerbaijan, Armenia, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine, Latvia, Lithuania and Estonia.
