OSCE Permanent Council Meeting on National Minorities takes place

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 November 2019, the regular meeting of the Permanent Council of the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) was held at which the annual report of the High Commissioner on National Minorities Lamberto Zanier was heard. It is reported by the Foreign Ministry.
In his speech, the representative of Uzbekistan praised the interaction of Uzbekistan with the Office of the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities.
According to the information of the Embassy of Uzbekistan in Austria, the participants in the meeting of the Permanent Council were informed about the policy pursued by the Government of Uzbekistan to ensure interethnic harmony and unity, measures to further improve interethnic relations and friendly relations with foreign countries.
It was emphasized that Uzbekistan pays special attention to ensuring interethnic harmony and religious tolerance, strengthening bonds of friendship between representatives of different nations and nationalities living in the country. It is indicated that these important topics are one of the key areas of the Uzbekistan Action Strategy for 2017-2021, initiated by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev.
It is noted that 138 national cultural centers and 34 friendship societies operate in the country. Education in state educational institutions is conducted in 7 languages, the national television and radio company of Uzbekistan broadcasts its programs in 12 languages, print media are published in 14 languages.
It is indicated that in May 2017, the Committee on Interethnic Relations and Friendly Relations with Foreign Countries under the Cabinet of Ministers of Uzbekistan was formed in order to strengthen interethnic harmony in society, as well as friendly, equal and mutually beneficial relations with foreign countries.
In conclusion, our country’s commitment to further expanding cooperation with the OSCE High Commissioner for National Minorities within the framework of his mandate was reaffirmed.
