Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- A delegation of the National Center for Human Rights of the Republic of Uzbekistan took part in the discussion of the draft Declaration of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on human rights, the press service of the National Center for Human Rights of Uzbekistan reported.
The third meeting of the Intergovernmental Working Group of Experts to discuss the draft OIC Declaration on Human Rights was held in Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) on 6-7 November 2019.
The organizers of the meeting were the OIC Secretariat together with the OIC Independent Standing Commission on Human Rights (NPKCHR).
The main goal of the meeting was to discuss and finalize the draft OIC Declaration on Human Rights, prepared in 2015.
The meeting was chaired by Saeed Al Eter (UAE), head of the Office of the Ministry of the Cabinet of Ministers and the Future. He noted the growing role of the OIC in promoting human rights in the OIC member states and enhancing the effectiveness of human rights protection mechanisms.
The new document includes universal norms on human rights and Islamic values and represents a key Islamic concept.
In the framework of the discussion of the draft Declaration, proposals and comments were made by representatives of Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Morocco, Egypt, Turkey, Saudi Arabia, Palestine, Mauritania, Kuwait, Qatar and others.
During the meeting, the delegation of Uzbekistan brought to the attention of the participants information on the implementation of international initiatives of Uzbekistan, in particular, the adoption of the UN General Assembly Resolution “Religious tolerance and education” and the preparation of the draft UN International Convention on Youth Rights, the Samarkand Declaration on Human Rights, on the results of Tashkent of the 6th international seminar of the OICHR of the OIC and the adoption at it of the Tashkent Declaration on the Rights of the OIC, as well as the intention of the Republic of Uzbekistan to put forward its andidaturu the UN Human Rights Council and adopted in this regard, voluntary pledges and commitments.
The draft OIC Human Rights Declaration was developed by the NHRC and the Secretariat of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in accordance with the decision of the 42nd session of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
It is planned that the document will be adopted at the upcoming meeting of the OIC Council of Foreign Ministers.
