Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 8 November 2019, a round table was held in the building of the Tashkent State Economic University with the participation of the First Deputy Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sadik Safoev, dedicated to the interaction of the state with the private sector in the field of social investment, organized by the Senate Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Agency for the Development of the Capital Market.
The round table was attended by representatives of ministries and departments, international organizations, specialists from research centers, as well as representatives of the delegation of Columbia University, led by William Eimike, professor of practice in international and public relations, who is also the founding director of the center Picker Center training in New York City.
During the round table, an exchange of views took place on the development of cooperation between the state and the private sector in the field of social investment in Uzbekistan. In particular, the importance of attracting private investment in the social sphere and infrastructure through the implementation of projects in collaboration with the private sector was noted.
Participants of the event noted that social investment is a new way to solve some of the most complex problems of society. Although many of the problems of the modern world - social inequality, lack of affordable housing, corruption, insufficient level of health development, food insecurity - may seem too big and too complicated, the solution to these problems exists, and this can be achieved through the interaction of the state with the private sector, as well as charity.
At the event, Professor William Eimike, co-author of the book “Socially Significant Investments,” spoke about successful experiences of public-private sector cooperation in the United States and Latin America in the framework of social investment, and shared his views on what key factors influence this type of strengthening. cooperation.
“In the 20th century, any reform occurred through the privatization of state property. Now the situation has changed. I am sure that in the 21st century social and political reforms will take place on the basis of state cooperation with the private sector. Decisions will be made based on the opinions of all parties - this applies to the social and political spheres, as well as the private sector. For example, to improve the urban transport infrastructure, the parties need to sit at one table and discuss, expand further the subway lines or increase motorcycle production?” Professor Eimike said.
It should be noted that the visit of the professor of Columbia University William Eimike is carried out within the framework of the Memorandum signed between the Agency for Development of the Capital Market of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Columbia University of the United States during the official visit of the delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan to the United States on 16-22 July 2019. During the visit, from 4 to 9 November, a number of meetings, lectures and seminars are planned.
