Representatives of Uztekstilprom Association takes part in World Cotton Day in Geneva

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- World Cotton Day was held at the headquarters of the World Trade Organization (WTO) in Geneva, the press service of the Uztekstilprom Association said in a statement.
Representatives of Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad, Mali, Côte d'Ivoire, India, Uzbekistan, China, Brazil, Egypt, Pakistan, Australia, Germany, France, Bangladesh, Angola, New Zealand and others attended the event.
Within the framework of International Cotton Day, bilateral and multilateral meetings were held to discuss issues related to the cultivation, financing and trade of cotton, aspects of attracting technical assistance from international financial institutions.
In particular, during a meeting with the Deputy General Director of the WTO, Mr. Alan Wolfe, issues of holding the Cotton Day in Uzbekistan were discussed.
At a meeting with head of the cotton department, Scott Adams (Ombudsman of the World Bank Group, IFC) and Ms. Fernanda Baretto of the International Labor Organization (ILO) talked about the positive changes in the elimination of forced labor in the production and processing of cotton.
At the meeting with dr. K. Schindler, chairman of the International Federation of Textile Machinists (ITMF), discussed the issues of holding the ITMF Annual Conference in Tashkent. Dr. K. Schindler announced the possibility of holding this event in Uzbekistan in 2021/22.
Following the official opening of the event, several section workshops were held to discuss the issues of delegates from more than 30 countries related to the cultivation, financing and trade of cotton in the world.
In her report, the representative of the Uztekstilprom association D. Inogamjanova presented information on the cotton-textile development of the republic as a whole, and the implementation of the cluster system, in particular. Indicators were announced in the field of production, processing and export of raw cotton, data on the successful implementation of large investment projects in the field. It was emphasized that today Uzbekistan exports its products to more than 70 countries around the world.
Also, the program of events includes a demonstration of the textile industry of countries producing cotton. Textile and clothing products from enterprises belonging to the Uztekstilprom association were displayed at the stands.
At the initiative of the organization of 4 African countries (Benin, Burkina Faso, Chad and Mali), the WTO is organizing World Cotton Day. The WTO Secretariat organized this event in collaboration with the secretariats of the United Nations, the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), the United Nations Trade and Development Organization (UNCTAD), the International Trade Center (ITC) and the International Cotton Advisory Committee (ICAC).
This event is connected with the official announcement by the “Four African Cotton Countries on the recognition of 7 October as World Cotton Day of the United Nations General Assembly, which reflects the importance of cotton as a global commodity.
