Geneva presents the advantages of the cluster model in the development of light industry in Uzbekistan

Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 7 October 2019, a delegation of the Republic of Uzbekistan, headed by Deputy Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Badriddin Abidov, took part in the celebration of World Cotton Day at the World Trade Organization (WTO).
According to the Permanent Mission of our country in Geneva, the event was attended by delegates from more than 40 countries at the level of trade ministers and heads of international organizations such as the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the International Cotton Advisory Committee, Food and Agriculture United Nations Organization (FAO), United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO), UNCTAD / WTO International Trade Center (ITC), as well as international financial institutions and others truktur.
The Uzbek delegation held a detailed presentation of the development of cotton-textile clusters, the implementation of comprehensive measures aimed at creating the production of a wide range of high-quality textile and sewing-knitting products. Those present were familiarized with the implementation in the republic of a cluster model for the development of light industry, which provides for the integration of production starting from the stage of growing raw cotton, processing it at ginneries and manufacturing final high value-added textile products.
During a bilateral meeting with the Director General of the WTO, Roberto Azavedo, he was thoroughly informed about the ongoing activities in the framework of Uzbekistan’s entry into the organization, as well as the importance that the country’s leadership attaches to the prospect of the republic joining the WTO.
The Director General, for his part, expressed full support for enhancing the WTO accession process and assured that he would provide all necessary assistance and support to Uzbekistan in this process, including holding the next meeting of the Working Group on accession in Geneva before the end of this year.
As part of the participation in the event, the Uztekstilprom Association and Uzpakhtasanoat organized a stand on the development and potential of light industry in our country. The stand’s visitors were greatly interested in information about the growing opportunities of Uzbekistan for the deep processing of cotton fiber and the production of high-quality textile products.
