Tashkent, Uzbekistan (UzDaily.com) -- On 2 October 2019, the fourth meeting of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission for Cooperation of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation was held in the Palace of Symposiums in Tashkent.
The meeting was attended by members of the Commission, parliamentarians of Uzbekistan and Russia, as well as media workers.
The meeting was opened with a welcoming speech by the Chairman of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan Tanzila Narbaeva and the Chairman of the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation Valentina Matvienko.
In accordance with the approved agenda, the issue of the implementation of the agreements reached following the summit and high-level meetings was considered. In this regard, members of the Commission noted that in recent years, cooperation between Uzbekistan and Russia has gained new momentum due to the extremely high level of trust that distinguishes the political dialogue between the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan Sh.M. Mirziyoyev and the President of the Russian Federation V.V. Putin.
In particular, the visit of the President of the Russian Federation to Uzbekistan last October, during which a package of documents was signed on cooperation between the two countries in the trade, economic, energy, scientific, cultural, humanitarian, educational, and social and labor spheres, gave a new powerful impetus development of interaction at all levels. In this regard, the importance of coordinating the efforts of the Commission to further develop the entire range of bilateral cooperation was noted.
The subject of interested discussion at the Commission meeting was the issue of cooperation in the educational sphere. Having thoroughly examined this issue, the Commission decided to continue work on the development of cooperation in the field of education, as well as to help the upper houses of the parliaments of Uzbekistan and Russia strengthen cooperation between the universities of the two countries.
Prospects for cooperation in the field of tourism, including the organization “ziyorat tourism” - this is another issue on the agenda, which the meeting participants focused on. Following the discussion, the Commission decided to take note of the information provided by the Uzbek and Russian parties on the prospects for the development of cooperation on tourism, including pilgrimage. In addition, the relevant committees of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis and the Council of the Federation were instructed to facilitate the exchange of information and the development of specific tour routes for organizing pilgrimage tourism to the Republic of Uzbekistan.
The meeting also reviewed the implementation of the Plan of Practical Activities (the “Road Map”) for the development of bilateral inter-parliamentary cooperation between the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation for 2019 and an action plan for 2020. During the discussion, the members of the Commission put forward concrete proposals on enhancing inter-parliamentary cooperation by exchanging visits at various levels. A plan of practical measures (“road map”) for 2019-2020 was approved, which envisages the implementation of measures to facilitate joint monitoring of the timely implementation of the signed agreements and agreements reached at the highest level visits, further development of interregional cooperation in the fields of trade, investment and tourism and other directions.
During the meeting, the role of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation in the development of inter-regional cooperation was examined. At the same time, the importance of continuing the practice of holding the Forums of the regions of Uzbekistan and Russia was emphasized, as well as facilitating increased participation in the second Interregional Forum in Russia.
In accordance with the Commission’s Rules of Procedure, the next meeting of the Commission was decided to be held in the second half of 2020 in the Russian Federation.
At the end of the event, the signing ceremony of the Decision of the Inter-Parliamentary Commission of the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Plan of Practical Activities for the Development of Bilateral Inter-Parliamentary Cooperation between the Council of the Federation of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation and the Senate of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan for 2019-2020 took place.
